Everyone was having a really nice time relaxing together. It was a great afternoon of laughing and getting ink on our fingers. I am so lucky to have this amazing opportunity to share my love of stamping with these amazing people.

Here is a beautiful card that Sara created to celebrate Solstice.

Wayne put a creative twist on the holiday cards. I love his use of the three ornaments with the pop of orange.

Wayne is a really creative and down-to-earth guy with an contagious laugh! It was so much fun to stamp with him.

Marty's Sunday Sketch #8

Well, this is week 8--can't believe it! I am so excited about the edgy New York City sketch that Marty created this week. He loves to sneak off to the craft room and make his little creations. He then snaps a picture with his Blackberry and emails it to me. It's fun for him and I look forward to getting his cute email.

Holiday Cards-Stamping at DREAM Charter School

I am really enjoying my new school! There are so many positive aspects to working at DREAM Charter School, mostly the staff. There are really amazing, intelligent people working there. I recently started an after school stamping club for the staff called CREATING YOUR DREAMS.

We meet twice a month after school to learn new stamping techniques and projects. It is a fun way to spend time together being creative and getting to know each other better.

Our first session together was spent making holiday cards. It was a blast and everyone really enjoyed getting inky and being creative. Many of the stampers had never stamped before and most are quickly becoming addicted.

I took many pictures that afternoon and plan to post them over the next few days. I hope that you will stop by and check them out. I would love to hear your comments!

Cute Butterfly Card

A few months ago, I got together with my wonderful friend (and stampin' sister) Corris. Corris is a member of my Stampin' Up! downline. We met to do a shoebox swap at the Sony Atrium in New York City. At that event, I had the pleasure of meeting Kim who is a member of Corris' downline. This beautiful, happy card was designed and shared by Kim. This is my version of her card--so cute!

I am so drawn to butterflies and anything purple. I was thrilled with the choices of stamps and colors that Kim made. This was a really fun afternoon of crafting, girl talk and a lot of laughing! Thanks ladies for a perfect afternoon.

RAZZLE DAZZLE Card

HAPPY FRIDAY Stampers! I wanted to shift gears a little from my holiday cards to a really fun card card using the RAZZLE DAZZLE stamp set.

The main image was really fun to make. I colored directly on the rubber using four different colors of markers. This card has an elegant feel with a little fun, colorful twist! I would love to hear your comments and thoughts about this card!

Beautiful AUTUMN Card

With a few days left in Autumn, I wanted to feature this card. Every month a group of us gather for a fun shoebox swap where we all design a project and make each other's projects. It is so much fun to see what everyone comes up with. This beautiful card was designed by one of my friends and wonderful Stampin' Up! downline, Jenny Bonet. I made this card but it's a direct copy of what Jenny created--I loved her original design so much. Our Kitchen Makeover

I have spent two years whining about our small kitchen. Boo hoo-ing and complaining as many of you know! Marty and I have been on a redecorating kick in our Manhattan apartment. We decided it was time to spice up our little kitchen! We are still working on reorganizing things in the cabinets and getting rid of things we don't use. Marty spent ALL day yesterday painting and moving things around. Thrilled to say that I LOVE IT!

Here are some pictures of our BEFORE and now--the finished (well, almost) product!

We picked this fun orange-brown color--for those of you Stampin' Up! folks--it can be compared to PUMPKIN PIE! Very spicy and warm! LOVE it!

Marty hung our new pots/pans on the side of the cabinet. Their copper bottoms look really cool against the new paint color.

Marty moved around our microwave a little and scooted the spice rack to the other side of the kitchen. It frees up tons of room. He painted a wasabi green color on the opposite wall of the kitchen. (I will post pics of that some other time.)

One of my favorite parts of the kitchen--the lightswitch which I attacked with alcohol inks and this cute coffee cup stamp from Stampin' Up! It just adds to the funky fun of the our new kitchen! Hope you enjoy it--would love to hear from you!

PATTERNED PINES Holiday Card

Vintage Holiday Card

One of my favorite events in our meetup group is a monthly shoebox swap. Everyone that attends brings a card or project and we all make each other's projects. It's an amazing experience because it gives me an opportunity to learn new techniques and tricks. This vintage card was designed by my dear friend, Eileen Bellomo, and this is my version. I love the vintage look as long as it's not too frilly. This is the perfect balance of vintage, edgy and HO HO HO!

Build-a-Brad Bracelet-Designer Brads

This fun bracelet was part of my blog posts for the RemARKables Blog Tour but unfortunately I had some technical gliches. I wanted to share it with you and the timing can't be better!

This bracelet is made by putting our DESIGNER BRADS into a simple chain link bracelet that can be picked up at any craft store. The little "legs" of the brads can be bend under so they don't snag your clothes or cut anything. This can be done with simple round nose pliers.

RemARKables BLOG TOUR DAY #4

Today's project was inspired by a lantern done by Heather, an amazing member of my Gotham City Stamper Downline. She did a fun lantern for Halloween and I was excited to recreate it for the holidays.

It is simply (3) 6X8 sheets of Designer Series Paper run through the BIG SHOT using the TOP NOTE DIE. The middle of each side if vellum stamped with SERENE SNOWFLAKES and embossed.

I picked up a small battery operated votive candle and put that inside the lantern. This picture is a little odd but I wanted you to see it all lit up!

Here is a close up of the snowflakes!

When I took the picture of the lantern, I put it on this table and put down a beautiful piece of paper. After I took the lantern off, I thought it would look pretty to keep the paper on the table under the candle that was originally there.

Our paper is a beautiful and simple way to add some color and holiday cheer to a table. It looks like a really elegant placemat! NICE!

I want to apologize for the confusion that my blog has caused during the past two days of the blog tour. For some reason, the graphics that I was using in blogger would freeze up my blog when it was being opened in Internet Explorer. As much as it broke my heart, I went in and changed the look of my blog as to get rid of the issue. In doing so, I lost my blog posts for days 2 and 3. My Birthday Surprise

Marty is amazing as many of you already know! We have been engaged since June of 2007 and have been just enjoying our time together. We have known each other since I am about 12 years old and are thrilled to have found each other again. Life couldn't be greater! Until tonight...

When we got engaged, we were very simple. A picnic by the river and under the George Washington Bridge and an amazing proposal. We didn't get a ring at that point for a variety of reasons. Tonight, a week before my birthday, he surprised me with this gorgeous token of his commitment. We picked our wedding date a week ago and his timing was fabulous, of course! I hope you enjoyed this little blurb of our "story" and celebrate this happy time with us!

Faux Glassine Paper Technique-DREAM GARDEN CARD

Tonight, I held our wonderful TECHNIQUE WEDNESDAY CLASS at THE MECCA. At this monthly class, I feature techniques that are a bit outside the box. It gives us a chance to push our creative boundaries and really focus on creating art. One of the techniques from tonight was Faux Glassine Paper which I found on Splitcoast Stampers. We used DREAM GARDEN which is a fabulous stamp set! I loved hanging out with some of my favorite pals and team members, Eileen, Laurel, Rosie, and JennyB. We also had the honor of meeting a new crafty friend, Deb! What an amazing night! Laurel even topped it off with ice cream cake--delicious!

One of my favorite meetups is a monthly group were several of us meet and do a shoebox swap. We all create a card or project and bring enough for each person to make our project. I love teaching stamping but this event gives me an opportunity to LEARN new things from my creative crafty sisters!

This is a holiday card that I made. It was inspired by a card in a popular stamping magazine that I love! I enjoyed using Stampin' Up! paper and products in addition to some amazing vintage sheet music from my trumpet player fiance, Marty and fun goodies from my stash!

I had an amazing crafty day today! I spent a bit of time with my friend, Gayle, and TONS of time with my crafting sister, Corris! We spent all day gabbing, eating Marty's amazing food and crafting! I have this box of projects that I refer to as the box of Misfit Toys (from Rudolph). It's all the projects that I never seem to get to or start and never finish. Today, I cleared out the box! For those of you that know me, I know you are gasping! Many of the projects were unfinished jewelry items. This is a piece I started as part of a class with Eileen a million years ago. Today, I added the finishing touches and it will soon find its way into my jewelry amoire!

I used Stampin' Up! Hodgepodge Hardware in Vanilla to make the frame of the piece! I hope that you love it and will take a moment to leave a comment!

I am so excited to introduce MARTY'S SUNDAY SKETCH. Every Sunday, Marty will share a card sketch with the crafting world.

Who is Marty?

Marty is my fiancee and an very active part of the Gotham City Stampers. He welcomes all of the stampers into THE MECCA, gives us drinks, makes us food, chases the UPS guy when he has Stampin' Up! orders and knows what all of the products do. He even know when Convention is and how to promote in the the company. Some of the Gotham City Stampers would say that he is truly a demonstrator. We thought it would be a ton of fun to start a new weekly card sketch that MARTY creates.

HOW DOES THIS WORK?

I have a team of 7 Gotham City Stampers on the DESIGN TEAM-5 gals in my first level downline, one in my second level and then, ME! We will be sharing our creations with you using Marty's sketch.

This is another quick card that we made at my Holiday Stamp-a-Stack. If you live in the New York City area and would love to come to my classes, click here! This card is using the SASSY SPARKLES Stampin' Wheel from the HOLIDAY MINI CATALOG. We also used the MERRY EMBOSSLITS for the amazing BIG SHOT to cut that embossed tag for the card. I love taking a a sanding block and rubbing it lightly over the word MERRY. That distresses just the word a little bit which makes it stand out on the tag. Simple and really cute!

I love, love, love CHOCOLATE CHIP and use it as often as possible. This is definitely an example of a well-loved stamp pad! I stamped this great stamp on VERY VANILLA cardstock.
I tied a sweet little bow and wrapped it around CHOCOLATE CHIP cardstock and our new AUTUMN MEADOWS DESIGNER SERIES PAPER.

Popped the stamped image on TAKEN WITH TEAL cardstock and added a chocolate chip corduroy button...a bit of twine and it's done!

Elegant Autumn Splendor Thank You Card

When I get a new stamp set, I love to look on www.splitcoaststampers.com for new ideas on how to use it. I love using different projects as inspiration for my own. Stampin' Up! encourages stampers to CASE (create and share everything) cards but I admit, I don't do it often. BUT, when I found this card on Splitcoast, I HAD to make it! I changed it just a bit but the general design is still the same. I believe that it is really important to give creative credit to people--this card was made by Barbara Jackson and can be seen on Splitcoast Stampers.

First step is to stamp leaves with VERSAMARK along the bottom of the Very Vanilla Cardstock. I then embossed the leaves with GOLD EMBOSSING POWDER.
I cut the VERY VANILLA cardstock a bit smaller than normal so that I could mount it on SOFT SUEDE cardstock. I stamped thanks with a stamp that I tend to grab for an elegant thank you card.
I cut this last little leaf and mounted with using dimensionals. I like how Barbara added that one little leaf to give the card some dimension and extra texture.
I love cutting out little things so cutting around the leaves was really fun for me! I love the simple elegance of this design!
I added some sparkly gold ribbon from my stash. I wanted a monochromatic look for this card. This makes the design all about those beautiful leaves!

Serene Snowflakes POP UP Card

I love this beautiful new Stampin' Up! stamp set, Serene Snowflakes. I love using snowflakes to make holiday cards and I really love how elegant these stamps are. At the 2008 Stampin' Up! Convention, we learned how to use circles to make really fun and easy pop up cards.

First, I ran BASHFUL BLUE through my BIG SHOT using one of the Stampin' Up! Texturz Plates. I wanted very simple swirls for the front of the card. I like doing a pretty simple card front when the inside of the card pops a lot of punch.
The inside can be made by punching out a few circles, here I used five circles in RICH RAZZLEBERRY. You then cut them into swirls--I teach second grade so I we call this type of cutting "snakes".
Then, glue the tail of the snake into the card. Put some adhesive on the other end of the snake (make sure it is coiled inside of your card). Then, close the card. This will make the "snake" stick from the top and the bottom of the card.
I used Serene Snowflakes and stamped them in Silver Pigment Ink and cleared embossed them. The snowflake for the front seemed perfect with a clear crystal brad in the center.
The other smaller snowflakes were for the inside of the card! FUN!
This is the front of the card--you might have noticed the sparkle on the blue cardstock. I made my own glimmer mist using water, reinker and a bit of the new Stampin' Up! Shimmer Paint. Shake it up and spray!

AUTUMN SPLENDOR WATERFALL CARD

In CELEBRATION of World Cardmaking Day, my amazing and crafty friend, Eileen teamed up with me again to co-teach a WOW card class. The cards that we created and shared gave a HUGE WOW! We even had a stamper that came all the way from GERMANY to stamp with us! One of my cards used the gorgeous stamp set, AUTUMN SPLENDOR. I love making waterfall cards and this class was the perfect opportunity.

A waterfall card pops a lot of punch and really WOWs people that get one. Not sure how to make one? Check it out on Splitcoast Stampers.
I love the simple lines of the leaves in this set. AUTUMN SPLENDOR combines so nicely with AUTUMN DAYS--almost like they were made to go together! The leaves are from AUTUMN SPLENDOR, the acorn if from AUTUMN DAYS. Beautiful together!
This is a quick picture of the setup of this card! If you follow the steps on Splitcoast Stampers, you will be able to make this card, too! Don't be intimidated by the directions/steps--try one and you will be hooked!
I wanted to add CORDUROY BUTTONS and the colors that I have just didn't seem to work. It is really easy to dye the KRAFT BUTTONS to any color that you want using our Stampin' Up! reinkers! A little squirt on the button and VOILA--Dusty Durango!
Here is the finished card--well, almost...at the point that I took this picture, the buttons were still trying. BUT, you get the idea! I promise to post the actual finished card SOON! I hope you enjoy this! (Don't you wish you could pull that ribbon and make the waterfall trickle in front of your eyes?)

Stampin' Up! FLOWER FOLDS Fabric Brooches

At the 2009 Stampin' Up! Convention, our wonderful CEO, Shelli, showed us how to use the FLOWER FOLDS Big Shot Die to make these amazing flower brooches.

Today, my crafting friend, Eileen and I taught a jewelry making class at THE MECCA in NYC. These are the gorgeous brooches made by the very talented stampers and members of the Gotham City Stampers: Eileen, Christine, Rosie, Amalia, Teri and Ashlie! I hope you enjoy them!

Background Smoosh Resist Technique Gratuitous Graffiti

My Stampin' Up! team, The Gotham City Stampers, are doing an awesome swap for our next team meeting. We are all making a 4X4 page featuring one technique. We are making enough for each team member to have one and then we are putting them into one technique fat book. I was working on mine today and wanted to share what I came up with! I used a technique called BACKGROUND SMOOSH TECHNIQUE which was adapted from the Technique Junkie Newsletter which I ADORE!

First, I inked the GRATUITOUS GRAFFITI Background Stamp in VERSAMARK and then embossed it with clear embossing powder. Make sure to use glossy cardstock for this technique!
I squirted different colors of IN COLOR reinkers into a piece of plastic. The original technique calls for using ink pads and rubbing them onto a page protector. I am always looking for new ways to use the reinks so this was my alternative. I then squirted water on the reinkers and smoosed the two sides of the plastic folder together.
I put two of the pieces of embossed glossy cardstock back-to-back into the folder and smooshed them around. SO much fun and SOOOO messy!
This is what they looked like as the embossed parts resisted the ink. Once they are dry, I plan to buff them with papertowel. Then, I will put them on chipboard or a coaster to give them more umph!
I can tell that I had a blast making these just by looking at my hands! I hope that you leave some comments if you enjoyed reading this tutorial!

I have been SO busy with my new school, DREAM! I am home this weekend trying to take care of myself. I originally planned a trip to PA to see my family but made the tough decision today to stay in NYC and take care of me. I have been dealing with a terrible earache and am feeling a bit under the weather. TRYING so hard not to get sick...

Enough woe and whining...

I will be updating my blog this weekend and hope to update it much more often. DREAM is quite a commitment but one that is is so important to me. Thanks for understanding and check back this weekend for new projects from THE MECCA in New York City.

CHARMING STAMP SET Picture Frame

This is the final post for the RemARKables Holiday Blog Tour! It was so much fun. This is my favorite project so far--yes, I love the project itself but more importantly the pictures of many of the amazing GOTHAM CITY STAMPERS from the Stampin' Up! Convention 2009.

For this frame, I used a paper mache frame and painted it brown. Once the paint dried, it was so much fun to paint it all over with CHAMPAGNE MIST SHIMMER PAINT. My friend, Eileen, said it looked like fabric once that dried. I then used VERY VANILLA CRAFT INK to stamp the flowers from the CHARMING STAMP SET. The butterfly as well the "CRAFT" piece of the art are also stamped using stamps from that set. I can't wait for the SIMPLY ADORNED JEWELRY to go on sale so I can use that elegant set for that!

Yummy Sweet Centers SKITTLES Card

TOO CUTE for words! I am loving this brand new stamp set SWEET CENTERS from Stampin' Up! Here, I used the hot air balloon images and filled the plastic sweet treat cup with SKITTLES! I have two young nieces and I am sure they would love a card that is full of candy treats. Imagine the possibilities of what you can do with this! I teach second grade at a school which promotes very healthy eating--trying to think of what I could put in here that is yummy and healthy. Or some sort of school supplies...any ideas? Post them in the comments section of this blog. I would love to hear them!

Delightful Decorations Christmas Card

Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la...
Here is another Christmas card using amazing products from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini. I was inspired by a card that I saw online and decided to embrace the design.
I LOVE the new Delightful Decorations Stamp Set and the Ornament Punch! I was able to stamp the ornaments and use the punch to quickly punch them out. The picture looks like I may have done a masking technique to get the ornaments to look like one is on top of the other. BUT, I punched them out and used dimensionals to layer the top ornament on top of the other two ornaments.
My friend and downline, Pat, told me that she saw how someone used the punch online to make a flower. They cut out five ornaments and glued them together like flower petals. How cool and very versatile!

Petals-a-Plenty Card from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog

I am so excited to be able to introduce this elegant and SIMPLE card as my first project of the RemARKables Blog Tour! This card uses the Textured Impressions Folder called Petals-a-Plenty and the GORGEOUS Sleigh Bells Ribbon! Both of these items can be found in the BRAND NEW (drool-worthy) HOLIDAY MINI CATALOG!

The stamp set is one of the stamps found in the Level One Hostess Set called Holiday Best! I love the elegant lines and really enjoyed coloring the stamp with our markers!

Our DREAM Classroom

Many of you have written to me excited to see the "after" pictures of our classroom! After many, many hours of work (I would actually be afraid to add it all up)--here is our new DREAM Charter School Classroom!

This is a view of our Science/Social Studies area as well as our Writing Center. This will all take form as the year begins and we hang more around it on the walls. Notice the nice, calm curtians! I love adding curtains to a classroom to take away that very institutional look of the windows. Curtains and plants can really make a classroom look more homey!

This is our MATH CENTER. We saw pictures of it from yesterday. Things were all over the place just a week before this picture was taken. This center is next to lots of board space for many charts, kids work and photos of us doing math.

Our classroom door is covered with cute, colorful animal cutouts. YES! That IS how many kids will be entering through that door in less than 48 hours from now...now, THAT is a reality check!

This picture is an overview of our classroom. You can't see some of it because it's on the other side of the room. This picture is taken from the classroom door! What a nice way to enter your school day.

The children will sit here for much of their instruction. Sometimes, we will be on the squares and other times we will be in a circle. LOTS of time will be spent here!

This is another picture of the rug area with some great visuals that Brooke made. She is really quite an artist which is so amazing for our kids.

This is a look at the entrance of our room. Everything has it's place and the colors are very relaxing. You will notice lots of open bulletin board space just waiting for charts, visual and kids' work! I envision tons of artwork and projects all over the space.

We used a very calming color scheme--mostly purple, blue, orange and green. This back meeting area (for smaller group work) is on a sage green rug. We think these are great colors to surround the kids.

This is our library-the nucleus of our classroom. Inside is a couch where you can visit our PEACE CORNER. This is great for kids that might be having a rough moment and need some "cool down" time. Our Director of Instruction said that when she walks into our room she sees it as a calm place where books are very important! PERFECT! That is exactly what we had in mind! Setting up our new DREAM Classroom

This school year, I am starting a brand new adventure at DREAM Charter School in East Harlem, New York City. If you click here, you can actually read my staff bio on the website. There are some really amazing, talented and creative people working at this school. It is a new situation where I will have 25 students and a full-time co-teacher. I am so lucky to be working with Brooke in our classroom. She is amazing and many of the same interests--one being that she is very artist! FABULOUS! Let me walk you through our journey so far...

When I moved to DREAM from my last school, about 50 boxes of books and teaching materials came with me. They were stored in the basement for the summer and needed to come from the basement to the fifth floor! We have no elevator! Marty took on the task (by himself) of bringing up all of the boxes--it took him 13 hours and many blisters. BUT, everything is now upstairs! This is Marty and Brooke putting together shelves that would eventually turn into our classroom library--the nucleus of our classroom.

This is a picture of just the beginning of the "stuff" as it was coming up. There were moments when none of us were sure it would come together. We stuck together and worked as a team to make it happen.

This is the very early stages of our Math Center. We moved that stuff around so many times to make it feel "just right". Brooke and I have the same philosophy regarding the classroom environment: calmness, structure, organized and full of art and books!

This is one storage closet which no longer has those books in it. It makes me laugh to look at this pictures as so much has changed from these photos to the end results!

This picure makes me shake a little! This was at one of the heights of having things all around us. We kept saying "maybe if we JUST clear off the tables"...if only we knew how many times we would clear off those tables...

Circle Circus Stamp Set & Lattice Big Shot Die

This is the third card in the cards that I made using the CIRCLE CIRCUS stamp set. This one is quite similiar to the card that I made for my 2009 Stampin' Up! Convention in Utah.

I first cut the LATTICE DIE on my BIG SHOT. I stamped the CIRCLE CIRCUS circles and punched them out. I then glued them to the back of the LATTICE. Once the glue dried, I added some DAZZLING DIAMONDS to the artwork.

Do you notice the green buttons? Stampin' Up! doesn't carry all of our amazing colors in our corduroy buttons. You can very easily dye them (use KRAFT COLORED BUTTONS) using the Stampin' Up! REINKERS. I squirted a bit of reinker on each button. My crafty friend, Eileen, told me that I can also easily use a paintbrush to paint a lil' REINKER on each button.

Founder's Circle 2009

My team, The Gotham City Stampers, in New York City recently returned from the 2009 Stampin' Up! Convention in Salt Lake City. For some of us, we have been there before and for four of our teammates--this was their first Convention. Upon getting our Convention bags, I went to pick up my award from the Awards Booth. One of my accomplishments this year was to have TEN of my downline promote to Senior Associate. This is something that Stampin' Up! rewards with stamp sets, cash and a walk on stage. I knew I earned it and was beyond excited about it. At the Awards Booth, they handed me my stamp sets and then from behind the counter pulled out a SUPER CUTE bag and announced "YOU EARNED FOUNDER'S CIRCLE!!" I was shocked and overwhelmed with emotion. The coolest part is that most of my team was standing there when it happened. I had no idea and nothing could have ever prepared me for that news! (If you are wondering, what is Founder's Circle? SU! awards that to the top 1% of the company.)

One of my friends, Gayle, captured the moment when I first found out! I was crying for hours and continue to when I think about that moment in my life.

This is a picture of most of our team right when I found out this news! I love this picture for so many reasons. If you look closely, the person taking the picture also captured the computer screen with my Awards Information on it! HOW COOL!

At Awards Night, I found out that I was the #78 Top Demonstrator in a company of about 40,000 Demonstrators. This is awarded for sales, recruiting and leadership of my team. WOW! I started the night sitting by one of my role models, Mary Polcin, in the reserved seating for those that earned Founder's Circle. It was one surreal moment after another that night. I was called on stage to meet Shelli Gardner! UNREAL! My team said that I didn't smile much--I have to admit my knees were knocking the whole time!

This is the group of ten that I was honored to be a part of for the Awards Night pictures!
I have to admit that this night was one of the most special nights of my life! I do what I do in Stampin' up! because I love it and my team. I am awarded for that everyday by being surrounded by positive, creative and supportive people who mean the world to me. This night was the icing on the cake! Gotham City Stampers---I LOVE YOU ALL!

I am so excited! I have landed in Salt Lake City, Utah with several of my teammates. Melissa, Jenny B, Eileen, Pat and I arrived here earlier today. We spent all day roaming around SLC. We first stopped to eat FABULOUS cheeseburgers right after we checked in. We hopped on a random trolley to see where it would take us! We stopped for drinks, shopping and some fun pictures. We ended our day with amazing food (again) and homemade chocolate chip cookies.

CONFESSION--we snuck into the SLC Convention Center to see the behind the scenes setting up of the upcoming Stampin' Up! Convention. We can't wait!

Tomorrow is another full day of sightseeing! Now, off to bed!

Stained Glass Card by Guest Blogger LAUREL

Stained Glass Card By Laurel Carpenter

This technique demonstrates one of my Convention swaps for the stamping convention in Salt Lake City, Utah, that will take place next week! It is my variation on a technique that Andrea Walford, a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator whose creations I admire greatly, had posted on her blog awhile back. I think this technique really showcases this terrific stamp set!

All of the products on this card are from Stampin’ Up!, except for the acetate and small paintbrushes. I used the following items:

• Eclectic Circles stamp set
• Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set
• In-Colors regular and textured card stock from Stampin’ Up! in Rich Razzleberry, Dusty Durango, and Crushed Curry, and a little bit of Melon Mambo
• Whisper White Card stock
• In-Colors reinkers in Rich Razzleberry, Dusty Durango, Crushed Curry, and Melon Mambo
• SU! 1 ¾, 1 3/8, and 1 ¼ circle punches (can use others as you wish)
• Staz-on Black Ink
• Crystal effects
• Paintbrushes (or Aquapainter, but it may get messy to use it and clean it for this project)
• Stampin’ Dimensionals
• Plastic palette tray
• Snips
• Snail

First, I stamped the Eclectic Circles in the black Staz-on ink on acetate, and let that dry for a minute or so. Then, I mixed each color of reinker separately with Crystal Effects on my palette tray. Using a separate paintbrush for each color, I colored in the non-stamped side of the Eclectic Circles with this mixture to create a stained glass effect. I then let these pieces dry overnight. Tip: I would advise only mixing a little bit for each color. Working quickly was important as the Crystal Effects/reinkers mix starts to get sticky after about 45 minutes.

Next, once the circles were dry, using snips, I cut out each image from the acetate, making sure that there was enough space around each to adhere it to my card. You could also use the next size larger punch if you have enough room on the acetate to punch it out.

On the 3.75” x 5” piece of crushed curry paper, I punched out three circles of varying sizes, and then flipped it over. I snailed each cut-out acetate circle to the back of the punched-out card so it would be framed by the punched cut-out. Then, using a 3.5” x 4.75” piece of Whisper White card stock, and some Stampin’ Dimensionals, I matted the Crushed Curry piece so that the stained glass circles shone through and were slightly elevated. Then, I matted this piece to the Rich Razzleberry Textured cardstock which was sized at 4” x 5.25”, and matted that to a piece of Dusty Durango card front which was sized at 4.25” x 5.5”.

For the sentiment, I used “Thank You” from Teeny Tiny Wishes, stamped in Rich Razzleberry Ink on Whisper White and cut out with the 1 ¼ circle punch, and matted with Melon Mambo using the 1 3/8 circle punch

If you are like most people, you have never seen or heard of a French beaded flower. Beaded flowers can be used in every way you use silk or fresh flowers. The only difference is that it will be many, many years before beaded flowers deteriorate. That’s why they make great inserts in bridal bouquets, hair barrettes, napkin rings, corsages, "potted" plants, and so much more. The uses for beaded flowers are endless.

I started beading the summer of my junior year at college. I didn’t have a summer gig lined up and needed something to fill my time. I was really adventurous that summer, I decided I wanted to crotchet a twin-sized blanket and do beaded flowers all summer long, Well half way through the blanket (which is still at the same spot) I decided crocheting wasn’t for me and began making beaded flowers to pass the time. Now I bead to de-stress, and the reason? Because when you’re beading your mind can’t comprehend anything else, and by the time you get the flower completed you’re so happy nothing else matters. There is lots of counting involved in making beaded flowers, but the end results are always SO worth it.

How to make the flowers you ask? I used tiny round seed beads, but you can also use bugle beads, which are straight-cut tubes. Cut one piece of wire for each petal (about 1 foot for the smallest petals and 1 yard for larger petals). String beads for first two rows onto wire, and center them. Send one end of the wire around and back through only the beads for the second row; pull taut. Continue adding beads and threading both ends of wire through each row. After last row, twist wire ends together.
All the stamens for one flower are threaded onto a single piece of wire (1 yard). Thread wire through beads for the base of the first stamen, and slide beads to about 5 inches from the other end. Add beads for loop, then send wire back through beads of the base; pull taut. Continue, adding stamens. After last stamen, twist wire ends together.
Start wrapping green floral tape around the stamen wires. Add petals, one at a time, wrapping stem with tape as you go. Wrap tape down the combined stems to the desired length, then trim. Shape petals with your fingers. To make a bouquet, wrap the stems of several flowers together with floral tape.

Don't be daunted by all the numbers! Beading flowers isn't hard. Just follow along, taking your time and improvising as you wish.

You Glow Girl!

It’s time to get glowing skin! My first homemade bath project was a batch of sweet smelling sugar scrubs that I made for my family. They loved it! I love sugar scrubs because they’re fairly simple and cheap to make from ingredients found in your own kitchen cupboard. Plus, you can give this away as fun summer gifts to all your friends and they will think you're soooo crafty!

Here’s a great little recipe for a sugar scrub that will help exfoliate your skin in the shower and leave you feeling soft and supple. You glow girl!

Basic Sugar Body Scrub:

1 clear plastic jar
1 cup sugar (brown sugar, raw, turbinado or any type will do)
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil (grapeseed or jojoba are good alternatives)
A few drops of a scented fragrance oil (optional)

Directions: In a plastic bowl, mix the sugar and olive oil and if you like, you can add a fragrance to make it more fun. Try lavender essential oil to soothe your senses or a citrusy fragrance oil for an energizing experience. Fragrance oils are safe for use on skin and can be purchased at your local health food store or online. Put the mixture in a plastic container or jelly jar and keep in the bathroom for use anytime. This scrub works best during a warm shower. Rub all over your skin and rinse off. Enjoy!

Note: After time, it’s normal for the oil to rise to the top and the sugar to settle to the bottom. Give the mixture a quick stir and you’re back in business!

What do I have to do?

We Baked a Cake...well, sort of!

This is another fun WOW card which was made using mostly brand new Stampin' Up! products. I am in love with the new IN COLORS especially Rich Razzleberry.

The inside of this card would have extra POP so I tried to keep the outside very simple and streamlined. Too busy on the front means TOO busy all around. I usually like designs that are pretty streamlined.

This cake card was created using the CAKE POP UP DIE from Stampin' Up! It is so much fun to use and quite easy--once you get the hang out it. The nice thing is that Stampin' Up! provided full color instructions inside the package and a video with great instructions.

Tonight, I had a great time making WOW! cards with JennyB. and her great friend, Jen. We made 3 cards (stay tuned for the next two soon). This card used CHEERS TO YOU STAMP SET and TALL TALES DESIGNER SERIES PAPER.

This card is really easy to make and I love that we learned it at Stampin' Up! Convention 2008. It brings back lots of memories for me.

Prepare the front of your card to your liking.

For the inside pop up part of the card, ou simply punch out circles and then cut them into spirals.

The bottom of the spiral gets glued to the bottom of the card.

Close of up the spiral. Then, put snail on the top of the spiral.

Close the card and the top of the spiral now sticks to the top of the card.

Add embellishments to the spiral--in this case the yummy drinks and sentiment from this stamp set.

These are the last two Coney Island pages from that little day trip. I am so glad that I have these pictures as 2008 was the last summer for Coney Island as we all know it.

These are two pages that I started forever ago and just tonight added the finishing touches. These pictures happened over about five minutes of my youngest sister, Ashley's wedding. They are some of my favorite pictures of the day because it's just us being us.

I LOVE to scrapbook and have been for about 11 years. BUT, with my exciting life of meetups and my Stampin' Up! Team (and a full time teaching job)--scrapbooking rarely happens. As a teacher, I vowed to spend a lot of my summer break scrapbooking. Currently, I am working on a chronological book of 2008.

These are my first two (of many) pages completed this summer. Although, I love Stampin' Up! products, I pulled out some papers from other companies. I did stamp the shells using the SEASIDE stamp set and enjoyed watercoloring them. I made LOTS and plan to use them on several pages! It's always fun to use my stamps in creative ways on my scrapbook pages. I hope you enjoy them and stay tuned for many more this summer!

Lemon loofah soap by Corris Little

Are you ready for summer? I am!

On a hot summer day, I love pouring myself a nice tall glass of homemade lemonade. So imagine my glee when I discovered this neat little recipe for Lemon Loofah soap. Trust me, it's just as good and very refreshing!

What is loofah? It's a plant that grows much like the cucumber. It can be dried, shredded and added to handmade soap for a natural exfoliant for your skin. It's a really unique ingredient to add to your homemade soaps.

Once you're done making the soap, this delightful bar smells like fresh lemons! Or if you're a candy addict, it'll remind you of a box of LemonHeads, too!

A friend who tried my soap said "It smells like fresh lemonade and makes your skin great. I didn't want to leave the shower and when I did I made a glass of lemonade."

Here's how to make your very own ...

Ingredients:
1 4-ounce bar unscented glycerin soap
1 teaspoon powdered loofah
15 drops lemon essential or lemon fragrance oil
1 4-ounce soap mold

Directions: In a double boiler on the stove or in a microwave on a low setting, melt the bar of glycerin soap until liquefied. Remove from heat and stir in powdered loofah and lemon oil. Pour melted soap into the mold and let set for three hours or until hardened.

Crafty Tip: For easy removal, put the filled soap mold into your fridge or freezer for a few minutes and then pop your soap out of the mold. It works every time!

Level 3 Hostess Set Sample

This card was done by cutting a piece out acetate using the Top Note die for the Big Shot. I then used brown paint on the back of the acetate and sprinkled it with Stampin' Up! Glitter. One the front of the acetate, I rubbed a rub-on from the Lovely Flowers Level 3 Hostess Bundle. This card was fun and very easy to do. What I love most is that the acetate takes on a wooden look.

An Altered Gift

This is a project I made as a gift for my friend and downline, Yvonne! It features some (retired) Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper. AND...it also shows off the wonderful line of Sticky Cuts and Stampin' Glitter that are both available in the new catalog!

What I love about this project is that I could pick up a really inexpensive picture frame and alter it. With the amazing products from Stamin' Up! and a great picture, I have the perfect gift. Bird on a Branch Samples

Last night, I attended a stamping meetup at my dear friend, Laurel's apartment. We were excited to create projects using the Bird on a Branch Stamp Set. This is an accordion card which I will finish eventually. I have an idea to turn it into a mini album instead of a card. This way, I can put pictures from a special event into the little album and give it as a gift. I loved how Laurel designed this using the brand new Stampin' Up! IN COLORS. I love Rich Razzleberry and just can't get enough of it. I am also LOVING the NEW Razzleberry Lemonade Designer Series Paper
and have been using it on just about everything!

This is another card using the same Bird on a Branch Stamp Set! I love the monotone look of this design with the lil' pop of color from the Pink Flamingo Designer Series Paper. Eileen and I decided that the little dotted stamp is SOOO useful. I decided to use it to add some more texture to the textured cardstock!

Summer Break Excitement!

Summer break has started for me! I am so excited for all that I have in store--fun with Marty and my wonderful friends! Stampin' Up! Convention is only five short weeks away. I am heading to PA to Jan Wakeland's with Corris and Laurel in about two weeks. Who could forget one of my favorite things, Broadway in Bryant Park?

Tomorrow, is thrilling as well! The NEW Stampin' Up! Catalog goes LIVE! Stay tuned to see some amazing samples through the Blog Tour which I am honored to be a part of.

My blog is going to be full of excitement! I have another GUEST BLOGGER who will be featured here in the next few days. I also spent time (last night) crafting in PA at Mom's and teaching the wonderful game piece pendants. I have so many pictures of their gorgeous creations to share with you! A Charmed Life
I wouldn’t exactly say I’ve led a charmed life; I’ve had my ups and downs. But I do like having some charms in my life….the kind I can make myself, that is.

This is one of the easiest charms to make. Flatten a bottle cap (use a hammer if you must, but running one through your Big Shot or Cuttlebug works like a charm (oh, so sorry about that!) Attach a piece of clipart (a 1” circle punch works perfectly for this), cover with a layer of a glossy medium and add some easy bead dangles if you like. The Crop-O-Dile punches holes easily, but a large nail and a hammer will work if you’re not a tool collector like I am.

Tim Holtz has a line of embellishments called Fragment Charms, little acrylic shapes with pre-drilled holes. You can color them with alcohol inks, stamp and emboss them. In this one I stamped flowers with Stazon, sprinkled with glitter and heat set.

Another easy way to make a charm is to use some sort of charm blank. This one is called a Memory Frame. You simply insert your art between two pieces of glass (cut to fit the size of the frame), put it all in, snap the frame closed and voila! Instant jewelry. You can’t see them in these pictures, but there are bead dangles hanging from the bottom loops.

This is another example of using a charm blank. In this one, I had a tiny mah jongg tile that fit exactly into the blank (dumb luck!). I just glued it on and then added the bead dangles.

These last two are about as low-tech as you can get. I applied the images (BTW, all the images featured on this post are from my favorite company, Paper Imagery Designs) to 1” squares of chipboard, then covered them with Versamark and clear embossing powder and heat set. I pressed the edges into more Versamark and then gold embossing powder. Again, my Crop-O-Dile punched through the chipboard in a snap. I added a tiny charm to the jump ring on this one instead of adding a dangle to the bottom.
So, now that you see how easy it is to have a charmed life, why don’t you go make some charms!

Don't You LOVE Surprises?

Today, I held an event to celebrate a very special milestone in my life! It has been almost 30 years since I had my Open Heart Surgery. All of the money collected for today's class will be donated to the American Heart Association in honor of this special occasion.

One of the cards that we made today was a pop up card using many Stampin' Up! items that will soon be available in the brand new catalog. It's so much fun to have this surprise pop out at you when you open this card. This is perfect to hold a gift card inside for another special surprise!
